Vampires and such

Lately I have been watching True Blood on HBO. I have seen the first few episodes, but I have still not made up my mind if I like it or not. It seems to demystify vampires a bit too much, and the characters are all a little kooky. All the same I will keep watching for a little while, just to see where it goes.

Kooky Vampire Setting
I really like it when horror stories are set in the south. There are so many kooky traditions, behaviors, accents, etc that are even more pronounced when juxtaposed with horror themes. It gets one to thinking about the real-life bizarre things that we think of as normal. The characters (other than Eddie) are very one dimensional but I'll keep watching next season. It makes me miss American Gothic, which was a really good horror show about the devil himself, which was set in the deep south.

Yes Eddie is by far my favorite character.

I was really irritated when they killed him off so quickly. He had more depth and interest to me than any of the other characters. Though Sam has started to take on more depth as time goes on.
