One thing leads to another.

At work I use Miranda as my IM client. Last week, at some indefinite point in time, it just stopped working. I talked with the local IT guys, and they have no clue why it doesn't work. I actually need the IM to do my job, because part of my team is in California, and part it is India. IM is a much faster way to exchange technical information.

So I decided to try and install a SOCKS5 proxy on my machine at home. To do that I updated my ports collection on my FreeBSD box. I run FreeBSD 4.11, and the current FreeBSD is 6.2. No the ports collection on my box is broken, which means I now have to upgrade from 4.11 to 6.2. In theory easy to do, but a lot can go wrong. Especially since I have to do it all over the wire, since the box has no CD drive or floppy drive. Just a hard drive, and an internet connection.

I'll let you know how it goes.
