Late last night I was reading a newsgroup where one of the posters kept horrendously misspelling everything. For example he would spell "fantasy" as "fantcy" and "anywhere" as "eneywhere." He posts very frequently, and seeing constant misspellings is annoying. It was clear that he was a pretty bright kid, and I sent him a private e-mail asking him to please read his messages before he posted them. Explaining that it was giving people a bad opinion of him. His response was that I should "BUG OFF!!!!!" To be fair I told him that he could tell me to mind my own business. What really irked me, is that later in the day he made a post "atmeeting" that his spelling was bad.

Now if you know that your spelling is bad, and you are posting to a newsgroup, why wouldn't you use a spell checker? Obviously people are going to make typos, and misspell a word now and then, but post after post.

I don't really care if he continues to post and continues to use incorrect spellings and bad grammar. I just wish that he could see himself as others see him, and figure out that he will get more respect just by doing a simple spell check.
