Irrational fears

The odd thing about irrational fears for me is that most of the time I recognize immediately the fear is an irrational one, but it does nothing to change the amount of fear I have. How does the rational mind fight against the hormones released by the lizard brain?

It also doesn't help that the media is constantly telling us about all the things we should be scared of. If all the dangers they tell us about are as dangerous as they hype them up to be we should all be dead at the hands (appendage?) of terrorist gangs of house fungus riding around on pocket bikes and razor scooters.

According to the CDC we should be scared of Heart Disease, then cancer. Everything else is a distance second.
