I did manage to stay awake during "Planet of the Apes." I guess that is a good review of sorts. Other people that I have talked to pretty much panned it. I thought it was okay.
The thing that bugged me the most about it is the fact that the have to explain everything. If we are going to accept the premise of a planet ruled by apes, then why do we need it all explained. Obviously we are willing to suspend our belief for it or we wouldn't have bought the ticket.
This isn't the only movie to try to explain all aspects of itself, "The Phantom Menace" and "The Matrix" were also guilty of this. I think they should follow the example of "Lifeforce," a great "B" movie about vampires from outer space. They do not try to explain the vampires, they merely state that they exist and the plot moves on as it should. We don't have to be burdened with explanations that are weak and inane.
